Nathan, will you be offering any of these above varieties for sale in the coming year?

Probably just a couple of those. I should have enough OBO Katie, Ova Jo (although last year it was a stingy tuber maker) and Glenbank Twinkle. The others are iffy. I'm building up stock of Summer Rain as it is very popular for cut flowers and tubers. Nathaniel I only have one plant...We'll see

Well, I will get what I can from you including Summer Rain. I lost that one but have a nice Ms Lisa going this year. Now if I can replace " Blown Dry", my favorite of that kind...

Summer Rain is definitely drool worthy. I have never grown Blown Dry; I don't know why. I fall in love with it every time I see a picture of it.

Noni, are you still planning on coming up to the Whatcom Dahlia Society show on Sunday?

I took these pictures at Swan Island when I was looking for the 2017 intros. Rather than writing something about each one, if anybody has any specific questions I will answer them. The context was suitability for cut flowers but any subject is OK.

Honnat, I like AC Sherri and Formby Crest. Can you give me an idea of their sizes?

I have Peggy Jean this year. It is rather a strange plant. The stems are very stiff but the flowers are only about 2-3" across. Also, foliage is NOT healthy looking on the one I got. Flower could be cute in a miniature arrangement but those stiff stems make it like working with a flower on a barbeque skewer. The color is nice on it.

Lindy is pretty cute. I might give it a try but I have already sent in my order for next year. I don't think I have ever tried this one but I Like that bit of warm orange in the middle of the pink.

Formby Crest is a miniature with blooms about 3 inches. AC Sheri - probably about 5-6 inches?

Ted,

Swan Island should use you as the photographer because several of these look more interesting in your photos than I their catalog!

Passionate: Looks great and I never would have given it a second glance...What draws you to it for cut flower use?

Lindy: Now I want to buy this one based on your photo! Anything merit cut flower use?

Helen Richmond: I think Noni has grown this one?

Passionate: Looks great and I never would have given it a second glance...What draws you to it for cut flower use? It would be an average cut flower, useful if you need the color.

Lindy: Now I want to buy this one based on your photo! Anything merit cut flower use? Fades a bit but immature flowers very bright. Probably an average cut flower as plants not all that tall.

Helen Richmond: I think Noni has grown this one? One of the best as garden flower but a bit large for cut flower. One of the best overall Swan Island varieties. Named after the woman who worked in the office for several centuries.

These were almost random pictures as I was looking for the 2017 varieties. I was impressed with Peggy Jean as a cut flower as it had miniature yellow flowers with long stems. Zachary Robert only useful if you really need red and white bicolor and cannot find anything else. Allen's Ladies Choice is a bit large for cut flower but if you need fire engine red flowers to impress someone, it would be one of the very best. Remember that pure, bright unfading red is very rare.

I will be visiting Swan Island on Tuesday and will take a whole bunch more pictures and try to concentrate on the 2017 ones and those that impress me with cut flower potential. Remember they grow about 360 varieties and I cannot do it all in one session. Tuesday is our club potluck picnic at Swan Island and I may want to eat something and visit with some friends too.

Viking, I tried to root a cutting of those one year that did not make it. Your bloom looks deeper than the catalog photo, but it looks like it is till opening.

I attended the Whatcom County Dahlia Show today. I met our Candy and her hubby there and we got on like old friends! What fun it was to view the show with someone else as interested and knowledgable! First off, she introduced me to Paul Bloomquist so I was able to tell him how much I like Bloomquist Tori! I asked him if there was another source for it, and all he could tell me was to come to their tuber sales in the spring (But Candy says those are only for members and you have to be there early...not likely to be up in Bellingham then...so I hope my Bloomquist Tori is busy making good tubers this year!

I enjoyed the seedings being shown the most. A nice plant one knows is nice to look at but its really exciting to see what might be available one hasn't tried yet. Some nice Clearview ones and Glen Gitts had some beauties there...there must be a lot of dahlia breeders in that area...I saw ones from Boleys, Cori Wynne, Jean Heeringa, And several other names I recognized...Candy spotted an intense red violet much like Clearview Erin the tips appeared to age to a true blue!

I took a lot of pics but just got home and haven't looked at them yet. I will down load a share a bit later.
