An hour east of Honnat, we had the rain, but luckily not so much wind. Neighbor's rain gage read 1 3/4". I had a couple of delphinium snap, and a couple of lilies flop, but both more from the water, than the wind. And best of all, no power outage.

The dahlias loved it! I had given them a foliar feed that morning, then the rain last night, and they are looking super good.

A few more opening today - Excentric, Rae Anne's Cannis Major, Summer Nights, Lakeview Glow, and Dark Magic. Not ready for their close up, but looking good.

I like that one too, Jon, but all of mine seem to have gone virused. I will be trying to replace it this winter. There seems to have been an explosion of virus back in that corner last year..I need to replace HH Icarus, AC Shitake, AC Abby and AC AU. I bet it spread when I was cutting flowers...each one of those was a real pleasure to me and will be sadly missed this year.

I don't know any way around the spreading of virus through cutting when I pick the whole garden several times a week. No way can I disinfect between each flower cut! If I could break them off I would but dahlia stems aren't designed for that. I think I need some kind of laser cutter but I would end up "topping" the whole garden with it.

Geof - great Alpen Fury. It does very well here, also. Seems to like the heat.

This is my 2 day harvest, mostly from the purple side of the dahlia beds.
I must admit that I am craving all the bright, hot colors that aren't blooming yet.
At least I have the Sylphid Celosia, Frosted Explosion Grass, and dill for some contrast.

Jon, I also like your AC Shitake. Looks similar to AC Ben. Do you prefer one over the other?

Sylvia, Comet is a cutie.

Geof, love your blooms. Your plants also look nice and healthy.

Annie, love all those dahlias and your filler. I can hardly wait for my frosted explosion and Sylphid Celosia to bloom. I planted late, so I may not have many during dahlia season.

It's so nice to start seeing some dahlias making an appearance (after all the work we put into them!)
Jane, the Frosted Explosion and the Sylphid grow quickly in this heat.
I wish the dahlias would keep up with the fillers!

Funny how Noni and I both have a slew of reds and pinks and you have all purples Annie.

I too love that frosted explosion grass - I don't grow near enough "filler". Somehow its hard for me to justify taking the space that is sunny enough to grow dahlias & lilies I need to study up and find the best fillers that can be grown in shade (other than hosta)

All the dahlias pictured are overwintered ones. I don't have anything new blooming yet, but getting close on a few!

The pinks are just what I have today. I also sold off a yellow and 2 purple/whites yesterday, and have a Hapet Vino in Burgundy and yellow, but the focus was blurred on the pic. I think I did plant more pinks then usual this year though...it has moved up to my favorite color, at least for now.

How do I choose?!! Smiling They share some similar shades of peachy orange, but both have very different forms and growth habits. AC Ben has broomstick stalks and huge blooms. AC Shitake is tall with medium semi-cactus flowers.

Annie, that Frosted Explosion is so pretty! Did you grow it from seeds? Does it come back or do you have to start over each year?

Em, I gre it from seed the first year, babying it all the way.
Now it comes back every year. I have to yank it out since it's so happy here!
Everyone loves it though in arrangements. Thumbs up
