Ted, thank you for sharing your wisdom. You are definitely my dahlia guru, and affectionately referred to as the Dahlia Llama in my home.

Artsy picture of HH Cafe Rose'. I wonder if I have any stock left of this one? If I do, I will take some cuttings. How is it that poor tuber makers-keepers seem to grow really well in the garden but under the ground there is very little there?

I've wondered before if there is any correlation to how much you let a plant flower (not disbudding at all), if you let flowers go to seed and tuber production. In some plants if you let flowers go to seed they won't continue to come back. Wonder if flower farmers who pick all the flowers early get more tubers?
Discovered yesterday that I counted the tubers in the bin that included Twilight Girl twice! I only have half as many as I thought and those are about sold out. Really really upset with myself about that! I don't even have any started for cuttings so will start from the ones that weren't showing eyes yet. Please, please let there be eyes! Anyone who can order from Teresa while she still has them and let me know...I took 50 down to her yesterday. Not sure how many she has sold of those but she has my best tubers that are left because I had down that I had 137 Tubers. Now I realize that I couldn''t have had that many tubers from the number of plants I had and I feel really badly about my mistake. Went looking praying there would be another big bag but haven't found one. Double counting is my only explanation.

I have been double counting for many years. Actually, it is really easy to overestimate how many tubers you have Sometimes entire bags of tubers rot. Some tubers have eyes that no longer are there. Remember that if you share a variety with someone a year or two early, they may be able to help you out.
I wasn't going to sell it for another year but then it seemed like I had so many tubers. I am very discouraged about the whole business thing...And about my ability to do business. I should just stick to making bouquets and breeding new ones..then let someone else take it from there,..It wasn't about the money anyhow, I was just excited to have other people grow it. Yeh, I am supposed to be retired and enjoying it...
Thanks Ted, for saying you have been double counting for years. It does make me feel better to hear that.
Ted, that is such a beautiful picture of Twilight Girl it almost makes me weep! I am feeling very emotional after struggling to pack orders and that beautiful shot just is pushing me over the edge, in a good way of course. It reminds me of why we do what we do even when it is hard.
And your orange waterlily is beautiful!

I had to look through here to make sure I hadn't posted this photo of a dahlia that seems to have faded from existence. Swan's Glory.

Swan's Glory! In the first group of dahlias I ever purchased - with Wheels and Alpen Fury. It remains one of my favorites.
