Both are Holland varieties. We had good luck with the Dutch one called Blue Bell. It is a bit deeper lavender with touch more blue. It grew pretty well for us and I may take some seed form it as it was planted with the waterlilies. Picture later.

So the heat and insects did a number on it but I'm still enjoying Tartan. The earlier ones had better color and more of it.
What size is the flower on the one you are asking about, Ted? I don't recognize it, but there is one I haven't seen this year that I lliked with those colors. It was, I think, a miniature but kind of think the petals are wrong shape for it. It is one I called Salish Cascades.

I managed to find a vendor that had an extra Hillcrest Kismet they were willing to part with. It's tucked away in the back of my girlfriend's garden and started blooming. There's quite a bit more yellow to the bloom than I've seen in previous plants. Usually it's a solid coral color like the rest of the bloom. It's pretty small as well. My girlfriend told me that corner she had planted had been up until this year notorious for not having much grow in that area. It's pretty small compared to my bloom I had several years ago which is the second photo.
Maybe a lack of bright light at this time of year? I, too, bought a Hillcrest Kismet that doesn't seem to be like I remember it. I will try to remember to take a photo tomorrow if it has a bloom.

Yeah it was tucked away in a corner behind a tree and some 8-9' tall corn (my girlfriend managed to germinate seeds from decorative corn that had been sitting in her parents house for nearly 50 years). I'm really hoping at the least it'll give me a couple of healthy tubers to store away for the winter.

We grew F. Illusion many years ago and liked its flowers and vigor. KAs Cloud is much better however but F Illusion much easier to grow and keep tubers.

My 8' tall Holly Huston has lowered itself down to about 7.5' and is burdened with an 11" bloom with rain also bogging it down. I'm starting to think it might be Kenora Wildfire but I do love the red. Hillcerst Kismet probably isn't that either. What else could it be? Wyn's Pinking Of You is pretty nice. Then there's JS Butterscotch with Pinking of You in the background.

Nice to see you growing more dahlias. I have never gotten Kenora Wildfire to grow more than about 4 feet tall. Have not grown Holly Huston in many years and do not remember it's height. JS Butterscotch is one of the Spartacus sports and many people really like it.
Holly Huston was one of the tallest dahlias in my garden when I grew it...about 7' tall...I quit growing it because it didn't hold well as a cut flower but I really liked it in the garden.

Pinking of you was very nice here last year and tubered well, but only 1 tuber survived the spring and that plant has not bloomed yet. Am hoping by leaving it alone it might bounce back next year. Might need to reorder than one.

Windhaven Blush is very reliable and easy to grow especially for a rather large flower.

Nick Gitts and Bill Mishler loved dahlias. It is believed that Bodacious is the seed parent of Nick SR.
Bill Mishler tried to use Wild Thing for breeding but it produced almost no seeds. Phil Mingus beat him to the punch and introduced Dr. John Kaiser, a seedling of Wild Thing. All of these people are now deceased. Kristine Albrecht got seeds from Nick SR. and her new white giant one that was at the trial gardens this year is the seedling. Nick Gitts(not technically junior as Nick Senior was named Nick and Nick Gitts is actually Nicholas Gitts.) has not been able to get any seeds from Nick Sr.
