Hollyhill Joy, the seedling of the famous Purple Joy(one of those "Holy Grail" varieties that people were are always looking for)
HH Joy is one I have not grown in several years and we just kept some pot tubers going. I grew it out this year and it looked pretty good.

Show N' Tell - I have never had good stock and finally decided to quit trying. With varieties like that, I can sometimes find good stock and it will look good for a year; but then finds a way to look terrible the next.
AC MP - Fantastic variety that I lost along with everything else last season. It has nice stems and a a great color. Designers aren't crazy about cactus; but it works fine if you grow a few and is a good market flower. I seem to remember the tubers being huge; but I may be mistaken on that.

Name: Ted Oregon We enjoy breeding new dahlias!
The tubers of AC MP were good sized from cuttings. Yes, I like purple and and yes I like cactus flowers but what I really like are strong healthy plants(and at least 4 feet tall!!!). AC MP is one of those and is about 5 feet tall in full sun. It has good long stems too. If it were just a little bit darker purple it would be perfect. It is however, a very nice color. AC MP, Sheval Megan, Josudi Aurora, Josudi Neptune were the best new ones here. AC MP was the best of those. AC Jeri was too short for me but had a couple of nice flowers. Several others were not even good enough to dig let alone grow again.
Can you beleive?! Nov 2 and I was able to pick about 6-8 buckets of dahlias in good enough condition to sell at market tomorrow! We have about 1/3 of the garden dug now but let these stand for this week. They will all most likely be down within this week so today is just one glorious celebration of the flower season! We started with a foraging trip through the woods and have buckets of evergreens, lichens on branches, huckleberry and sword fern. Then we circled around the roadside strip where I planted shrubs 16 years ago...snowberry, and other greenery and shrubs. In the dahlia garden, another 6 buckets of flowers that should still look good to sell, and the last of the scabiosas and ruby love grass....We never made it to the back shrub garden where there are more foliages and pink snowberry... or the front garden where there may some rose buds available.
Beautiful day with sunny skies and the wind blowing fluffy clouds across at a fast rate of speed. i had to take off the jacket I started with.

Bill Mishler tried to use Wild Thing for breeding but it produced almost no seeds. Phil Mingus beat him to the punch and introduced Dr. John Kaiser, a seedling of Wild Thing. All of these people are now deceased. Kristine Albrecht got seeds from Nick SR. and her new white giant one that was at the trial gardens this year is the seedling. Nick Gitts(not technically junior as Nick Senior was named Nick and Nick Gitts is actually Nicholas Gitts.) has not been able to get any seeds from Nick Sr.
Are there any photos of her giant white seedling of Nick Sr.?
