Oh yes! I have a very nicely striped PinkTigress this year. Maybe one should buy a new tuber every year just to see what variagiation one will get. My Pk Tigress last year was so faint in color I wasn't sure whether it was just a dingy TIgress or a really faded out Pink Tigress. I bought a new tuber from Tall Grass Farms, and it is much nicer.

TheseTigress are both tubers for the same plant - thats what surprised me.

OH my...do we need to grow them all out each time to see which got the best pieces of genetics? I'd sure like to keep the one I have this year going, een though it was thowing out some nice Red Pink Tigresses also.

Tigress can sometimes sport to yellow , so a bit of your stock has sported to what Ted and I refer to as " Yellow Tigress " . Yeah Y Tigress has some limited and varied red streaks , I have a plant of it this year also by chance and while I do like it I prefer the original Tigress and Red Pink Tigress , I have yet to have a plant of " Pink Tigress " Grow for me , for some reason I always loose it , it dies or is eaten by something so I cannot comment much on it yet .

And apparently it can sport back to the original - since the yellow version was the only one I had last year. It again reinforces how much smarter it is to grow from cuttings of the best plants like the Brits if you want to control the stock.

I can think of several dahlias over the years where I only kept & planted 1 or 2 tubers, and they happened to be ones that didnt have all of the genetic info - open centers, or color shifts, or bad form etc.

Flower Power!
Swan Islands new introductions are shown in this video, at approximately the 10 minute mark. I believe the un-named flower in the video is now called Shaggy Chic.

Creamy is an old time cut flower in a modern shade of very light yellow. Picture taken at Clack's Dahlias. It was originated by a small dahlia seller who operated out of the small town of Heppner in eastern Oregon. It is a small flower at about 3 inches in diameter.

One that would fill the bill and is probably more available is Tahoma GlaciarThumb of 2017-09-27/Islander/ba00fd . I have really enjoyed this one this summer. I just did an evaluation on my left over dahlias from Saturday and it rated 4 stars out of 5, 4 days after market. It still looked fresh but showed some slight crushing sideways from being in the bucket...However, I emphasize again that this is 5 days after market...I'm guessing it is a miniature FD just off hand, or it grows that size for me. I bought the tuber from Les And Viv Connell last winter. Sure hoping it makes good tubers!. I wonder if K Connell sells this one..that would probably be the best source if so.

Last minute announcement of retirement at work, and because I took the month off except for Thursday's, I missed the announcement and the party, both

Hopefully this will be an acceptable apology and token of my well-wishing.

PS: Forgot to say what's in there, but I'm not sure I'll be able to name them all...

Yellow: Bloomquist John F, Windhaven Blush, Ferncliff Lemon Ice, Cambridge and Cambridge reverted to Bilboa, Mingus Selena.

Orange/reds: Wyns Delta Frank, Alpen Fury, Hot Shot, Brandon J, Alfa Max, Knee Deep. I know there are more, I just can't remember all I cut.

Thanks, Luv! I'm definitely not a designer, but I can put them in a vase to where they look like it's meant to be a bouquet, anyway.

In case you didn't see, I went back and edited in the names of the ones I could remember cutting.

Patricia Ann is a ball dahlia classified as purple. What I like about it is that it was originated by Bob and Myrtle Bloomfield and although Bob is deceased, Myrtle is still alive at 101!

Apparently our dahlia season is no where near finished! I was out picking this morning with 4 inexperienced helpers and we filled way more buckets then we can sell, and the garden is still full of pretty flowers. It was misting down pretty heavily though..we all came in and changed to dry clothes for lunch time.I have 2 good sized special orders going out this weekend also. October is often my best month for sales! We will see what happens weather wise though. Lots of open centered flowers but lots of closed center ones to make up the buckets full too. We will see how it goes...I will probably start digging my seedling patches after the wedding next weekend.

Last year, my Star's Favourite rotted. This year, I acquired another one, and I waited all Summer for it to Bloom. Still not Star's Favourite, sheesh. Thumb of 2017-09-30/melissamaeday/c8b0f5
I got in a weird car accident today where someone pulled in front of me (and I clipped them and it's their fault) and now I'm wondering...do I just give up or keep trying?

I'm not sure there is any great stock of Star's Favorite around any more. I've grown it but I think there are a lot better flowers out there....I think it is one of those bulbs that comes from Holland.
