I am optimistic that her green center will disappear.

So, blooms other than An, Or, O are not supposed to be open centered? I like the color of it but have it marked for elimination. I think I have one other this year that always blooms open. Hmmm.. must do a yard inspection.

If there are only a few rows of petals on most of the blooms with the yellow pollen disc showing right away, then the stock has gone bad, and most growers compost the whole plant. Sometimes, especially in intense heat or at the end of the season, the flower 'blows its center' too fast, without any time with the 'perfect' stage where the petals are reaching back around to the stem while the inner petals are still covering any yellow from the pollen center. Most double dahlia blooms HAVE a pollen disc, but it should only show AFTER the bloom is past its prime.

hmmm...this was supposed to be a "dinner plate" size... it's pretty anyway
OH yeh,,,the mightly "Dinner Plate" strikes again The term "Dinner Plate" is so misused as to be meaningless and nothing but advertising slogan. My mentor here from our dahlia club, tells me it actually means a dahlia that is flat like a dinner plate, nothing about the size of it...and being a "Dinner Plate" dahlia is not at all desirable in a show dahlia...

I like your diet plate dahlia. Hawaii is a cute flower for cutting. The name was stolen from a previous flower with the same name that was a beautiful purple collarette. As you might imagine a tri color cut flower would outsell a purple collarette by 1000 to 1 and the older one is probably extinct. I couldn't even find a picture of it so the picture etched into my brain from 1991 or so will have do but I cannot download it from my brain to Cubits. .

I learn so much from you all and appreciate your comments. I had no idea about the meaning of dinner plate or the origin of Hawaii.

When I googled "onesta dahlia"the pictures were a pink waterlily except for the one labeled "White Onesta". So it appears that a commercial seller is already selling the white one. Onesta is not mentioned much, if at all, when we talk about dahlias. I believe it is a Dutch variety sold mostly in the Dutch tuber displays in the stores in the Spring.

I like Greta a lot, Benny. How is the plant behaving for you? Looks loaded with blooms...
Greta is quite nice , a very ambitious bush of a plant with loads of blooms , quite short for me as is most everything else this season ( even Kenora Clyde ) .
Jumbalya is very pretty but both plants set there first blooms down in the foliage due to the fact I did not pinch out the top bud so no photo yet ,
Daisy Adare is absolutely beautiful !!
Erma ( B Lac Yellow) is very pretty also , nice solid plant , forgot to photograph first bloom , will get a photo later this week I hope
I was just doing my twilight stroll through the garden on this hazy hot night with the scent of forest fires in the air when my eyes lit on a bush filled with smoky pink flowers...It only took a moment for the name "Allen's Smoky Skies" to come to me..and oh my but the name fits perfectly! THey are lovely, unlike the way I feel about our own smokey skies...if I could think of it as Allens Foggy skies I would be much happier,, But I do believe this one will be a keeper for me.
i picked a bouquet of my own Salish (Fully double) Seedlings and combined them with A.S.S. to put in my room that is a soft peach color. They do look wonderful in there!

I don't recall if I posted AC Tara here yet. It's good, I suppose.
This will definitely have a second year with me... AC Sheri. Nice glowing center.
This one... not so much. Pretty disappointing, so far. AC Kathye
AC Leslie is one I have to see more blooms to make up my mind... I think I like it...

Ted,
Based on your reply, I'm probably not going to grow Onesta next year. Our single plant has been erratic with its flowers, not producing blooms like the first one.
Tina
BTW Here is my post that your replied to, which I had moved to another thread.....
"I have a question about Onesta...our one plant produced its first bloom a few weeks ago and it was really big. Despite it missing a petal, I shared a photo because I thought it was beautiful...like painted silk ribbons. Then the plant produced 2 much smaller, almost wild looking blooms with petals going every which way. Now, it has produced a smaller white bloom."
"Is it common for a plant to have such diversity in the flowers? Is this white considered a sport? And...should I keep the tubers of this particular plant for next year....or buy a new tuber? I'm wondering if the plant displayed this wide variation in flowers this year, will it be likely to do the same next year?"

AC Row's End is unimpressive (pardon the bug bites) Kind of "thin", just doesn't seem to have enough petals

Drew, I love how the pink is sitting on top of the white. Nice.

Ha! And his cute little puppy is actually a huge beast that will lick your face off. Picts can be deceptive.
Check out this Hollyhill Big Red I found in Drew's garden... if I had been getting these kind of blooms when I grew it, I would have never gotten rid of HHBR!

HH Big Red and HH Big Pink have been great performers this year. I'm been thinking about how to overwinter HH Big Pink. Was wondering if I dug the tuber clump and transplanted the clump to a big pot...... and that's about where my plan falls apart. I'm not sure if that would be any better than digging and storing in vermiculite.
Anyways.... both have been great this year.

So nice to see all of these new blooms. I'm not bothering to post much this year as I dont have anything new, but here are a few old favorites that are looking good right now.
Clearview Lila
Hot Tamale
Tanner Joe
Ferncliff Copper (Noni - I think you asked about spares? I have five plants of it in this year and they are all looking healthy to my eye, so I will have plenty of extras)
