CC, I hope I can get enough tubers to share. I wanted to grow more of her this year and only ended up with 3. One is in my patch to make seedlings from. Windstorm I am pretty sure I can get a tuber from for you..and maybe Jon or Benny will be able to share some Evening Glow tubers. Its been such odd weather here this summer that I have no idea how tuber production will be affected.

All these beautiful flower photos are appreciated. It helps me to see what varieties actually look like in a home garden vs vendor websites. My wish list is growing each day! Noni, I think Evening Glow needs to come live here in our NY garden lol.
As a "newbie" to dahlias....when planting them out, I created a map with the location of each variety. Then I promptly lost the map! Our plant markers have faded and are unreadable. So, as each flower blooms, we play a guessing game comparing the blossoms to the variety pictures we see online.
So...I don't know if this dahlia is Lavendar Perfection or possibly Ottos Thrill. In either case, it is a gorgeous salmon-flamingo-pink that has an iridescent sheen on the petals, almost like a fine dusting of pearlized glitter. The photo doesn't do it justice. I just love this one!

Lots of discussion on best plant marker pens. Sharpie is mentioned often in "it fades" department. The Industrial Sharpie is better but not still not real good. I have used the larger Super Sharpies that have lots of ink in them and on tags in the ground, they work fine for me . My theory is that if you use lots of ink on the label, that it lasts longer.
Connie Thompson of Canada swears that Pentel N-50 is the ultimate marker and she says it will last for many, many years. I bought a box of 12 on Ebay but have not tried them yet.
Grease markers(old technology) work well. A regular pencil will not fade but it is so faint that my old eyes cannot see the writing very well.
If I were rich, I would buy a nursery label printer and print my own labels with color pictures that I took. They last as long as just about anything. Very expensive. One can order custom printed labels too and one of our club members used to order some of the standard ones they sell for tomatoes as they have a long list of pre-formatted ones.
How much do blank labels cost? That is another subject for another time.
And quality of labels....I unintentionally bought some that came in a roll this spring and within a month of being outside nearly all of them cracked and the tops flew off of the spiked part. That does none of us any good. Now I buy the same ones I have used for years from Mega Greenhouse Supply. They come in a box of 500 or 1000 I forget which. I usually buy 1000 at a time. They are much thicker and stiffer then the "roll" tags. It was hard to even push those flimsy things into the soil. I have settled on the markers made for gardens that I buy from the same source as my tags. I find I go through a box of them about every two years, counting all the ones I lose or that I lose the tops to while working. I should start a collection of the caps that are left when the marker dries out to use as replacements.

I would say definitely Otto's Thrill. A NOID of mine turned out to be Otto's Thrill, but yours looks much nicer. I probably didn't give mine a fair shake, but at least I know what it is now.

Everything is around 3 foot for me right now, Jon, with nothing really standing out. Hard to tell about the heat, as the weather peaks at 80 around here for only a couple hours each day. The stems are pretty substantial, though, so I would think it would do well for you. The color is very close to Bloomquist Harmony... can't remember if you are growing that one or not.

CC, Have you or anyone here....grown Irish Pinwheel with AC Rooster? I have them on my wishlist and wonder how they compare in size of bloom, bloom time, plant size etc and whether the colors compliment each other.

Thanks for the feedback on Smoky Skies! I am really loving dahlias that reach 5 or 6 feet tall, which is a feat down here...maybe I just love height, but that does often tell me about vigor when considering a variety.
