Hollyhill Goldrush: Benny, you also posted this to Facebook and Max Ollieu said that he likes it as a show flower. As a garden flower or cut flower it is nearly worthless. A classic case of a flower that takes special effort to grow and when you do get good ones it is a rather insipid color. For the show people, it has great depth and every petal is where it belongs. In a bouquet those characteristics do not mean much.

What kind of special effort does HH Goldrush take? This is my first year with it, and I want to do it right. Not that I will ever beat Max, but.....

Just like Embrace, it blooms down in the bush. You need to carefully disbud to get the flowers out of the bush. It also gets a slight blush when shaded and that helps give it a more palatable color. Also, it needs to be shown when it is fully ripe as that is when it gets the great depth. When fully developed and since every petal is precisely placed on the bloom, it does very well in the shows. It gets the depth from Hamari Accord, probably the deepest show flower of all. It had so many petals that exhibitors would remove the bottom rows. This would make the bloom appear to be slightly less wide and noticeably deeper. H.. Accord petals would recurve to the stem after you removed that last row AND they would not shatter and start to fall off(Narrows Tricia shatters when you do this). Show people can be real fanatics. All you people putting together bouquets do not use a cue tip to groom the ray florets on your blooms?

OK. I'm annoyed again. This came labelled as Monet Glory. I think it is too pink, and therefore was mislabelled. Anyone have a clue as to what it might be?
How about HH Monet? Colors are right though your flower is showing the rough times it has been through, but that would make a logical mistake to be made.
Here is the one and only bloom I had on HH Monet so far. I think this bud was on it when I set it out and now it is busy making new ones.
The 2nd pic was actually taken earlier in the process...
I would say you were really lucky if you have a healthy HH Monet. I bought multiples from several souces and had to pull half of them...Hoping at least one is healthy enough to propagate for next year. Its one of my most favorite WL flowers.
I can't find my camera. It is driving me insane! I had taken a whole bunch of photos of my dahlias and not downloaded them yet. I want to take more pictures on it. I remember setting it down somewhere when someone came to get flowers, and thinking that at least it is waterproof if I forgot tp pick it up for a while...but its a mighty fine little camera , and we have checked all the places I can think of where I would set it down, including my jeans pockets in the dirty laundry bin...

Noni, I have two healthy plants of "Monet Glory" or HH Monet. I am waiting until later in n the year to ID it. The heat and the dry weather is affecting EVERYTHING.
River's Purple Pinwheel. Stressed, but starting to bloom. Now, if the JBs wouldn't chew the ends off of the petals.....But the color is gorgeous.

Nice Purple Pinwheel; waiting on mine. Love the color, but I thought the petals would twist a little more.

So to get the flowers out of the bush, I would disbud further down than is usual for a BB? I have a couple of others with this problem and haven't got an handle on it yet.

Sylvia, the blooms on RPP are much nicer than this one, but everything that's blooming right now is stressed from the heat.

Here, also. Today is the last day at 104. Then the forecast is for two weeks in the low 90s.
I think my RPP is getting close to blooming. Most excited about the giant buds on Clearview Claret that are just about to open. Also the Lakeview Curly. Every morning is like Chistmas Eve in the garden. It's always going to be tomorrow.
Plenty warm here and quite humid too...I just came in form picking and I am soaked with sweat. I haave probalby 5 buckets of dahlias for tomorrow and I can now see the effects of the fish fertilizer starting to hit. It should be a great growing week for them...
Totally love "Angels of 7A" for a red cut! I was able to pick 4 of them this morning and they are a much bigger flower then I realized...They seem to hold their color well in sunlight also, and nice long stems on them. Here I chose it because they looked so nice at the end of the season at Swan Island and in my garden they are starting out looking great as well! If they are still looking good at the end of the season I am increasing the number of plants next year.

Angels of 7A was named after the nursing staff that took care of Ted Gitts after the fatal car wreck.
