Kevin, I had missed that! I just ordered and hope it isn't a mistake on the website! Thanks for alerting me to it and we will see. IT seems to be the only one listed as still being in stock.

What's the story about the dahlia name Skipley Snoho Bill? I thought I read somewhere that Richard Williams showed Sk. Snoho Bill against Bills own dahlias and won?

I believe Skipley Snoho Bill was just named after Bill Bonneyewell. He died in 2011 after struggling with ALS for several years. Snoho Bill was introduced in 2020.

Burning clippings and such on the site of our first year dahlia garden. Looks rather gothic to me.
Wow, it looks like you fired up the sunset from your bon fire! Cool shot! We have some bonfire stacks here but it hasn't dried out enough to burn them yet.

Very cool! I like both ends of the gothic-cheery spectrum.

It is so quiet around here!
Here is Otto's Thrill. Poor thing just doesn't want to wake up this year, keeping my fingers crossed that she is just a sleeping beauty.

I did some research to try and find out the breeding of Otto's Thrill, 1956..
Breeder: Otto Aumiller who married Dorothy Caroline Miller and had 5 children. He passed away on 3 October 1967 in Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana, USA.

You know how high fashion can be so ugly it's beautiful. This dahlias is following that trend.

1956, wow! Well, I am still thrilled by Otto's work
I had this particular plant tested through the ADS, and it came back virus free. It doesn't seem likely that a strain can remain virus free for that long, does it? Do some of the companies in Europe do tissue culturing to ensure that their stock remains viable?

Give it a catchy name like Junkyard Dog. That name at Swan Island sells lots of tubers. Yours may be a bit prettier(or not!).
Knuckledragger?

Virus resistance is genetic trait. Some dahlias hardly ever get virus. Conversely, it is impossible to find healthy stock of some varieties. And they test for only 6 viruses and obviously there are thousands of viruses that could infect a dahlia.

I love it! People keep trying to assign concrete value to something that is the expression of random neurons firing in random brains, but that's people. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder and exists nowhere else. It's true that agreeing with other people about what is beautiful causes you to "belong", which people tend to crave. Agreeing with dahlia judges about what is beautiful is the only way to win ribbons, which people tend to crave. But I probably can't be convinced that anyone's opinion about beauty is worth more than any other person's.
Beauty in terms of Dahlia Shows vs Beauty in terms of the flower grower...its like the difference between a beautiful metropolitan park and the beauty of an old growth forest on the Olympic Peninsula!
