I love that one. My 2 Penhills didn't have a chance with our early frost. They were just starting to bloom.

I consider myself fortunate that I got a good month's worth of blooms out of both Watermelon and Dark Monarch. I do much prefer Penhill Watermelon, simply because I love those golden tips.

A picture taken a few minutes ago of a small bouquet on the kitchen table, You may get the impression that we like the white with lavender waterlily flower in this display. You would be correct. It is a second year seedling that has impressed us all year and has real staying power in the cooler weather. It is a smallish flower for a waterlily and that helps in the cool weather.
I like that one too, Ted. It looks like a lovely flower for a bouquet. I like that it is a smaller size. Big waterlily ones tend not to last very long and when they go they can really spoil the looks. I bet Margaret can really show this one off! So many cut flower customers love the waterlily ones.

I wrote in it's first year description "miniature waterlily" and the plant was not all that tall either at 3.5 feet. It is barely 4 feet tall this year and the flowers have nice stems. It made three tubers it's first year and is not yet dug this year.
Bicolor waterlily in background is the sport of HH Snowfire and we have been trying to get some consistent bicolor plants. That is difficult with variegated flowers.

Bouquet on kitchen table too ugly for a picture. One cannot generally identify the varieties as they do so poorly at the end of the year. I suppose I could take the time to use some oasis foam and place the floppy stemmed, poorly formed flowers into a position for a picture but what is the point? I should have left them in the garden. The dozen roses my daughter got for her birthday have replaced the dahlia bouquet that has been moved closer to the garbage can. The season for dahlia bouquets is over.

Mine were done a month ago, but we still had a longer-than-normal season this year. Finished dividing yesterday. Have a little wrapping to do today and I’m done. Woo hoo!

My one allowed emotional seedling save. I took way too many photos of this plant throughout the season to let it rot. It always had the curly center petals. So blasphemous! The heart wants what the heart wants.

Duet is a classic dahlia that can have some excellent flowers. Here is a picture taken in 2001 of the flower as exhibited by Wayne Shantz at the Eugene National show. I was able to borrow a digital camera to take pictures at that show as I could not afford one back then. I bet most all of you could take a comparable picture with the camera on your phone. I am going to have to buy a new phone as they are going to
stop supporting my "3G" flip phone. I suppose the quality of the pictures should be one of my considerations. My other issue is the resistance to dahlia dirt.
What is the one on the sides with the twisty petals? I like it.

seedling 20-19 and we kept it over for another year as it does grow very vigorously. October flowers have color changes and I do not know what the other flowers are.
