That is lovely! Ia it under shade cloth? I see it has no sunburn on the petals.

Shade cloth is for other people. It does not fade much or wilt much(but it ain't perfect in those characteristics either). It is a pleasant surprise waterlily seedling that photographs well and we will see how it does for the rest of the season.

Gold and light brown are camera friendly colors. As you can see if the bloom were to sport it would be the color of that lavender streak on the one floret. Sports are a change in one of the two dahlia colors and in this case I would bet that the underlying pigment is yellow and it sports to white and where it sports the red pigment that overlays it is lavender instead of red. That is a mouthful derived from a small streak.

I had a Hi Patti once that would turn the most amazing smoke gray when weather conditions were right!(or wrong, as the case. may be).

RPT was what I thought. Second year seedling is what the tag says when checked later on.

Someone needs to eat the fruit on the table.

Huh. I swear I just read somewhere to keep cut dahlias away from your fruit bowl. Something about gasses emitted will shorten their vase life?

Yes...I followed this rule when I was selling flowers. No fruit allowed in my workroom/storage area.

Love that flame seedling and especially that red one, Ted. I love that red. Is RPT another of yours, Ted?

I did not know that about the nearness of fruit affecting cut dahlia blooms' longevity! I wonder how far apart they need to be... apartment living makes for small spaces - LR and kitchenette all in one room.

RPT stands for "Red Pink Tigress" the solid red sport that always sells out and I may no longer sell as I have less room to grow flowers just to sell tubers. The red sport I love is the solid red version of Funhouse. I planted lots of it this year and it is looking really good.

I don't have a name for this, but I thought the photo was beautiful.

(here's what it looks like expanded. It's actually a light lavender/pink, and the center isn't that yellow, it just came out that way on my phone)

My older daughter is visiting us from Maine...first time in 3 years we have seen each other! (And she was unable to come during her brother's last days. She brought our Christmas gifts...last Christmas, not 2021. When we moved to Oregon my collection of incredible art mugs for my morning coffee did not survive the crappy movers. It broke my heart....along with all the other things they broke. So here is what my darling girl brought me!Thumb of 2021-08-29/Islander/03291a The Dahlia Lady mug!
