Love BQ Jean. Planted 3 eyed tubers this year and not one grew. So disappointing. This is definitely on the “must have” list.

That's awful, I've had a few disappointments like that this year. I'm looking forward to more blooms from BQ Jean, I think this plant got off to a rough start.

I judged a novice entry of Bloomquist Jean at the show yesterday. Color is florescent orange here. Novice exhibitors bring blooms to the show that have lots of defects so when you are training judges , there is lots to talk about. I went through litany of issues with the novice entry and then as is traditional, we placed blue ribbon on it anyway. Occasionally, they do not get ribbons but this one looked good from 3 feet away and from the front. From the back or side it was not so good. I am going to grow Bloomquist Jean next year. It needs to be crossed with HH Cotton Candy. https://www.dahlia.org/news/photo-contest/photo-contest-winn...

Verrone's Obsidian is back in the garden! I remember buying this for $25 the year it was introduced from Dan's Dahlias. That seemed pretty expensive at the time now I see all sorts of vendors selling common variety tubers for nearly that much which bums me out.

Roland Verrone loved the monetary reward he got from selling Obsidian as it was a very, very prolific tuber maker in his garden. If we appraised new dahlias by the money they made in the first year of release it would make the top 10 list. My Hero probably has set the all time record.

Verrone's Obsidian was well worth the money. I'm gonna grow My Hero next year since Nick Sr. is one of my favorites.
Something's all screwy with this AC Highway 61. The petals are striped rather than red with white tips and it has an open center. The foliage remains quite dark though.

Sorry, Eric, but that’s a hot mess. Time for a tuber upgrade!

This seedling seems to have stopped opening. It has been looking the same for almost a week. Does that happen often?
