I've been getting my plants ready for the end of the season so of course I brought a lot into the house to enjoy. . I threw them into a vase last night but today I had the energy to sit down and arrange them and photograph them. Most of them are seedlings, 1st or 2nd year. And there a few flowers left showing off in the cutting garden. I deadheaded that cosmos a few weeks ago and it came back and sported lots of new blooms. Nearly all of the dahlias in the bouquet are my seedlings from the last 2 years

If I were ever to start breeding WL dahlias I would include Hollyhill Aurora as one of the seed parents. The color is eye candy but her strong point is her growth habit. Very easy to grow and bloomiferous.

Beautiful, Noni! Looking forward to seeing photos of your new seedlings.

HH Aurora: Margaret is trying to cross it but it has very little pollen and has not made many seeds. I cannot say enough about how easy it is to grow.

Fernridge Pride, wow! Beautiful!
Noni, what a beautiful bouquet. The lowest dahlia in the arrangement has stolen my heart!
Cate, That seedling is Salish Wind or a seedling of Salish Wind. The seedlings look very similar to their mother. I actually sold some of these about 4 years ago but have been rebuilding stock. They most likely came from a voluntary cross of HH dahlias. They have those HH broomstick stalks and long stems. I remember I named it about this time of year when we had one of our NORMAL wild October wind storms. (SO far this OCtober, down here in Oregon we have had no weather drama but one 80 degree plus day after another.) I think I have had 7 variants among my seedling Salish WInds this year...most vary only in the degree of red violet in their petals. They have all been stand outs in my seedling patch. I am curious to see how many tubers they made.

Noni, my favorite is the bubblegum pink FD behind the white asters. Does it have a name?

Salish Wind! That’s fun to say, not to mention is has quite the pedigree!
Well, I’d certainly be your first customer if any tubers are for sale, but now that I know how everyone feels about the mail I wouldn’t dare ask

It's even more fun if you say it aloud with an Irish accent.
JUlia, the pink one is a first year seedling and does not have a name yet. I will check on what I have written on the tag when I get to it...I am now going through the rows, saving seeds, tidyng plants, making sure they have ID's on them and removing anything I don't want to save. I definitely want to save that one! I might try some rooted cuttings in the spring but doubt I will have enough tubers this first year. Once I give it an ID I will tell you so you can keep track of it. I love it a lot too and as I am sitting here across the room from the bouquet it is even more beautiful then it was 2 days ago! I am seeing a nice round pink with a darker center.

Will be doing this to entertain myself for weeks (months?) to come.

Second time I've grown Ketchup & Mustard (1) I like it quite a bit despite the fact it goes open-centered really quickly. Trelyn Rhiannon (2) ended up being way smaller than I was expecting. This bloom is about 3"-3.5". A nice little bloom but not my cup of tea. AC Fernando (3) I'm very happy with the blooms on this one. Not to far into the plant growth the center died and it topped itself. I'm not sure if an actual trait or due to the center dying but it's quite short and bushy. Clearview Jonas (4) consistently makes some really lovely blooms.

Scottish accents are also quite fun to use.

Oh definitely, I didn't even remember what it was supposed to look like once I got it and had to look up some photos. IT JUST KEEPS GETTING NICER.
In other news, it didn't freeze last night but it's getting dangerously close and is supposed to be 30 degrees on Sunday so I've bought myself some time.
I've finally had a decent Hillcrest Kismet bloom and the color is still quite wonderful. It's not quite as photogenic as my 2010 bloom I had but I'm just happy to have it back in the garden.
