Thanks for the info. The plant looks perfectly healthy. I’m just thinking I may end up not getting great blooms from the first flush is all. (It got in the ground a little late too). We’ll see…. I’ll post pictures once I finally get a bloom!

These are the buds of my KA Papa John (the ones that look kind of funny).

Hollyhill Ripple has provided it's first bloom.
AC Mom
My Wyn's Sundazzler almost seems to be turning into an incurved cactus.
Kenora Wildfire is providing small-ish 6"-7" blooms.

Hollyhill Ripple is a variety we bred very many years ago. About 10-12 years ago we lost all our stock. Whenever I see picture of it, my first reaction is to grow it again. However, the reality is that we have too many dahlias already and unless we had big plans to breed something, growing an old one that is well distributed is not in the cards. For the breeders out there it was a seedling of HH Diamond, a white dahlia and the pollen parent was probably Rolf. HH Diamond was seedling of Amy K. an excellent easy to grow variety bred by Les Connell.
When you name a dahlia after a relative, there can be some interesting dialog:
Ted to Les Connell, the breeder of Amy K: How's Amy K. doing?
Les: She is in high school now and made the honor roll.
I can picture that conversation in my head, Ted! Thanks for the gift of it!

True story.
Hopefully it provides a few tubers, in my experience variegated plants don't make many viable tubers by the end of the season.

We’re growing both HH Ripple and HH Bewitched. HHB sported to solid burgundy. Almost as pretty as HH Black Beauty. HH Ripple is a real treat. I can see why you’re inclined to grow it again, Ted.
Eric, we’re growing AC Mom, as well. Didn’t know if we’d see any blooms, but like a lot of the AC’s, they seem to grow by the foot (overnight) this time of year.

Beautiful Andrea! They are all gorgeous, but that Maya! I am a sucker for the dahlias that curl up like a peony.

Maya is a Dutch variety bred by Aad Verwer.

Thanks, Emily.
Maya is a shorty… 2.5-3 ft tall. Definitely not good for cut flowers, but wow, the amount of blooms makes up for the short stature. I have big plans for this one next year as a border plant. I traded with 2 different people and some have a bit of pale yellow in the center.
Clearview Debby only got to about 3.5’, but it was blown over in a storm about a month ago and hasn’t done much since. I only grew one plant, so I’ll have to try again next year.

First seedling to bloom. I am over here hoping for pastel pink and peach doubles, checking each bud every morning in anticipation.

Well this was supposed to be Carmen Ella Grace but it clearly isn't. It's around 6.5" in diameter. My best guess is Snoho Storm. This might be my favorite photo I've taken this year.
. She is back! Looking just a gorgeous as last year. I should measure this one but I can't reach it! Guessing its betweem 6 and 8 inches on a tall stem.
Salish Breaking Dawn. Must propagate many more of them next year!

I definitely agree. I'd have ordered Snoho Storm if it had been an option so this is a nice surprise.

It looks like it's one of those pesky brilliant blooms that always confuse cameras so it's never quite what it looks like when you see it in person. Very nice.

I'd like to give AC JC a shot and see how it turns out down here.
Bloomquist Jean had it's first and very unremarkable bloom but through the power of "a good angle" I managed to make it look pretty decent.
