So excited to have my first bloom with Lake Hills Phred. And to think I regretted buying this one I didn't realize it was a mini. It's actually quite adorable. Supposed to only be 2 feet.

For sale at local nursery: new for 2019. Flowers are about 3.5 inches in diameter and have good color. They do have a bit of a green center.
Dalayaâ„¢ Dahlia Purple + White
Garden dahlia features big blooms and exotic bicolors that charm with awesome retail appeal. This series is known for having excellent garden performance and powdery mildew resistance that beats the competition across all varieties. Plus, Dalaya is well-branched with an exceptional habit, ideal for 2.5-qt. and larger pots.
Picture is much darker than the flower but it is a nice bicolor.
That is so sweet! I never got good stock of this one but always liked it.

HH Pinkie was a tall grower with lots of flowers. It gets better split tips in hot weather. Our stock went bad and we have not grown it in over 10 years. I remember it being more pink than your picture. Bucky and Pinkie were fraternal twins that were my age who lived a block away. He is long dead from an auto accident and I have no idea what happened to Pinkie.

Darcy, I will have to remember Lake Hills Phred for next year. It's really sweet!

Remind me...I'll save you one or two if it makes tubers.

The season is slowly starting here. I've lost a record low amount of tubers this year, which is crazy as it's been a record rainfall year. Japanese Beetles are arriving now, too. Here are my first blooms!
Very pretty! Interesting to see how lavender your Stillwater Becky looks...mine was way more to the pink shades but but that might just be a camera difference. I always edit my photos until they look like what my eyes see and it means bringing out the yellow shades a lot more then the camera catches. I was really impressed with Stillwater Backy last year and have some nice plants coming on . I like your Mambo also. I might want to grow that one some time. Where did you find tubers of it?

Thanks, Noni! It is strange how lavender looking Stillwater Becky is in my garden. As the bloom matures on the plant, the front petals are now turning pink, but the back ones remain lavender hued. I found Mambo at Frey's Dahlias! I believe Amanda grew it last year, and I was happy to snag some tubers. More anemones are going on my 2020 list! :)

This one came from Birch Bay Dahlias as "Jennie". I ordered 2 of them. The other one is looking like Jennie as it opens but this one looks like a coral Ms Prissie on a much taller plant. I absolutely love it! The color looks more like Ms Prissie when the sun is very hot but it has been rather cool later. It will be interesting to follow its progress through the weather changes and see if it is really different from Miss Prissie.
later'''
It is one of my seedlings! Probably the best of the ones from last year. It is definitely not Ms Prissie as the color is a soft coral pink. It has really nice stellar form.

I picked all three of the blooms in the garden for the club meeting tonight. Yes, there are a couple of open centered seedlings in bloom too but they are not even attractive in a non conventional way.

Here are our first three dahlias in a vase in the kitchen.
Orange is the second year seedling and purple is a third year seedling.
It's been almost 100 degrees for the past several days. The majority of my plants seem rather unfazed by it (wish I could say the same for myself). Here are a few new blooms-
Ruskin Myra
Bloomquist Harmony
Hollyhill Hello Dolly
Hollyhill Buttermilk (the name isn't Lemon Chiffon any longer, I believe)

It is an accomplishment to get blooms in really hot weather and do not be surprised if the plants slow down tremendously during the hot weather. Keep them watered and they will respond with really nice flowers in the last weeks of August.
