This was suppose to be fuzz wuzz ,but I don't think so. The color is great. As a first bloom on this plant the stems are not large. There are other buds on the plant where the stems will make for good cutters.

Viking -I wouldn't rule it out as not-a-Fuzzy Wuzzy yet. I have been growing those for a few years & sometimes get solid pink blooms. The leaves & flower shape looks similar to the Fuzzy Wuzzy (slightly laminated petals) & the growth habit sounds similar (many stems are really short). My 1st year I was disappointed, but it has grown on me. I now like the surprise of not knowing how pink or white the bloom will be until the bud opens.

I am always happy to see a picture of HH Gloria not so much for the flower but because it was named after a really nice woman that befriended Margaret and myself. Her and her husband were really good gardeners and he specialized in a huge vegetable garden and she grew flowers, fuschias and dahlias. We only knew her for a few years and she was about 10 years older than us and grew up in one of those huge Italian families in SE Portland. We still have her recipe for meatballs. She said there should be no onions in meatballs. She called dahlia tuber "potatoes. She was an expert at finding valuable items at garage sales, especially jewelry. She died of cancer.

Ruskin Andrea is really pretty in cloudy weather. It does fade and we found it to be an "overbloomer" meaning as the season went on it had too many flowers that got smaller and were not all that good. You need to really disbud it to keep that from happening. Hollyhill Andrea was a seedling of it and it is no longer around due to the lack of tuber production.

About half of the dahlias are in bloom - so maybe 80? I reduced the garden size this year. I've been taking pix but can't seem to sit down and post. I took pix on one sunny afternoon and then 2 days later in the morning before the sun came over the house. What a difference in color!
So, these are all the same flowers in sun and in shade:
Barbarry Netto in the shade----------------------------Barbarry Netto in the sun - this is a truer color
I am sentimentally attached to this variety - it was one of the first I bought at Winco 10 years ago it is still going strong! I give tons of it away every year.

Steve O didn't get a full frontal because the bud is damaged. But it is so pretty, I wanted to get a shot of it.

I appreciate the heads up on Ruskin Andrea being an overbloomer, and will be sure to disbud like a bandit, as I really REALLY adore the flower.
Fantastic blooms, Sylvia!!! I love the shade/sun comparisons.

Cafe' au Lait is still banned from our garden. I would be very upset if it's pollen was spread around by some enterprising bees. Yes, people have said many times that the flowers vary tremendously in color even on the same plant.

Those are very pretty! Crazy how they are two different plants, two different colors, and also blooming so early for being on the larger bloom spectrum.
I have 2 plants of Cafe Au Lait growing myself. I vowed never to grow it, but my boyfriend challenged me and said that I can't "hate" a flower unless I've grown it. I said touche and bought a couple of tubers...
