I bet Crazy 4 Carol is about 1/2 inch bigger but I do not grow it to compare. These are smaller than any cactus I have seen and both are classified as cactus but Josudi Telstar is more cactus than the other. Pixie is slightly smaller of the two.
Since we are talking about smaller flowers for bouquets, I showed this third year seedling to my good friend today. I asked how it would do for show, bouquets and as a garden flower. He liked the clear pure color and thought it would do well in the shows. For bouquets, it is an excellent size of flower at 2.5 inches and a good color. However, I wonder how long the stems would be as the plant is 3 to 3.5 feet tall. Still, bright yellow would fit well into those small table top bouquets. It would be a good pairing with HH Rudolph in size as they are both 2.5 to 3 inches in diameter. But Rudolph has long killer stems for any size bouquet. It's best use may be as a garden flower as it has dark green foliage and is covered with attractive flowers and is not all that tall. All of the yellow poms are bit finicky although Yellow Baby can be nice.
No name third year(may be sold next year)Hollyhill seedling that is just a bit bigger than a pom. I would call it a pom for bouquet work.

Crazy4Carol is blooming at the North grow , the first few blooms were open centered but it is planted in a very hot sandy soil location , need more mulch there . Irene really seems to like it .

Wahhhh! I miss BLlzzard this year! I didn't realize I was out of it until too late to order. I have never grown the others but Mr Optimistic looks like fun.

Notice the middle bud is facing the ground. It looks "sad". I do not know the variety as the tag has gone missing.
After removing the two outer buds as was suggested, and we now have this happy little Fascination bloom.

Thank you for the heads up, Drew! I dead head so frequently that I likely would never have known...oh the possibilities...
She is back, my friends! I found Miss Evening Glow hiding down in the center of the plant this morning. I got so excited to see her! For newbies, this is my first exciting seedling from 3 years ago. She is shorter this year as are all my dahlias (I think most northwest coast dahlias from what I am hearing.).. but the plant looks as sturdy as ever and I think she will keep growing. This year I am trying to cross her with some other giants at Ted's suggestion since her petals indicate big folk in her heritage. She still has "broomstick" stems. I have 3 plants growing after almost loosing her over the winter. I know she is growing for Jon and Benny. Did I get any other plants out to folks to try? She looks a bit bland here but wait until she gets up into the sunshine!
It's so rewarding to see the blossoms.
Reading these threads has made me realize how many different hurdles we all encounter, and all I can do is learn from my failures and be happy with what is growing now. I hope Mother Nature takes a few ibuprofen and is kinder to your dahlias in the coming weeks!
