Oh jeesh, Noni! That's a long time.

I need to try and find safe straw this year as it worked great to keep moisture in. I did use straw in the front bed that year, but I'm pretty sure I used it in the back also. I suppose it's possible I didn't...wonder if that's it. I am running out right now to grab soil samples to try my pea seeds with.

I suppose it would be a good idea to keep some pea seeds on hand for such an occasion , will have to grab some next time I'm at the store .
Let us know how your test turns out Darcy

Not a lot else going on , We just might learn something and watching Darcy grow a pea seed in Ohio is apparently more entertaining than the crap I'm paying for on television .
Come on little pea seeds you can do it !! Thumbs up

I loved my kid's planting project from school in a very small clear cup, so you could watch those roots grow and spread. Not so great for the plant, being root-bound, but a very hands-on project that changed day to day.

One of the last nice kitchen bouquets last year. October 6th was the date and it was just some nice flowers that we picked and brought inside. I do not remember the names of some of them and the orange one on the left looks good to me now.

I liked the looks of the orange one too and I like it paired with the dark pink little round one. The orange looks lighter then Tangerine, so it has a different feel to it.

What happened to Calico Evening Glow being " five to six feet tall " ??

Just measured her for fun at 8'9" tall , the plant is in a raised bed bringing it up another 12" or so Rolling on the floor laughing
I need a ladder to fetch any blooms for a bouquet Big Yellow Grin

Wow, I had forgotten this post! My guess at 6' was in bright direct sunlight....Can't wait to see what she does this year for you! And this year, measurements will be taken...You know, if my guess is correct, her parents were (known) Wyn's Garden Glow Which I think was between 4 and 5' and Bahama Mama who is also not particularly tall and tends to get overshadowed by her neighbors pretty easily. Must have been another selection of the octaploid genes from either parent...

Sounds like a case of hybrid vigor as the two varieties that crossed were unrelated and hybrid vigor was the result.

That is scary! What if I crossed two 6 foot unrelated plants!

Last season I planted Bloomquist Sterling outside of Mom's living room window and it was not super vigorous there , gets quite hot there , have decided to " Fill " the window this time , her new favorite HH Zarina is going to be planted there and it grew to 9' in direct sun last year also seemed a bit more heat tolerant than many of the other varieties I grew , I think she will be able to see this plant just fine Big Yellow Grin
Going to put down double the mulch I used last season up there as the drainage is a little " too good "
