Not sure how T Tempest got classified as a stellar...definitely LC . Not much ? revolution ? on the petals of T Tactic .
Drew, if you can, give T Tempest another shot next year. I think mine knew it was on the chopping block… it’s so much better than last year! And, it’s already made the cut for 2023.

I don't have a lot going this year, but here are a few pics.
Lifestyle BJ's Rival AC JC This is one of my fave flame blends. The image doesn't do it justice.

All of these are on my radar, Amanda. I’m growing Lifestyle, but still waiting on the first bloom. Don’t you just love it’s ferny foliage?
Every pic I see of BJ’s Rival is gorgeous. Have to try to find that one for next year.
My AC JC order was refunded. I’m surprised to see it so red. I thought it was orange?

Ooooo. Is the red a nice bright red like AC Kuntz?

I’m growing BJ’s Rival this year also and I love it. It was one of my earliest, and has a decent vase life for an anemone.
Andrea, I was confused too about AC JC, but just checked Dahlia Addict - AC CJ is the orange one. Confusing…

AC JC is more of an orange/yellow flame ... This one looks too red. ( I can't find a pic, but I think I grew one this year that has not bloomed yet )

AC CJ is much better known. It is an intense solid orange.
AC JC is a 2017 release. It's a Giant, and I would say it's a bit more orange than it appears in this phone photo which did the classic over-saturation response to the red. I wouldn't say it's a great tuber keeper. I've already had to repurchase it twice, which may be why it's only avail from JS and Cowlitz.
BJ's Rival is quite petite. It's probably the smallest non-single dahlia I grow. I would guess 2.5 inches across.

Ahh, that’s right! Thanks for clarifying.
Didn’t know BJ’s Rival was such a little squirt. Might have to pass on that one and admire everyone else’s pics.

BJ’s Rival isn’t that small for me. At least 3”, probably a little more. I’m not great at estimating sizes, so I could be wrong, but it strikes me as being the right size for what it is.
Here is kind of a funny looking picture of it in a vase with BQ Golden and KA Snow Jo. Not the best picture of BJ’s Rival, because it’s so head-on, but it will give you an idea of scale. Keep in mind, the larger, brighter petals recurve, which gives the eye a feeling of larger size in real life

Well I'm convinced I want to grow Tahoma Tempest next year. Valley Porcupine made a return to the garden after a decade long break. It's my first year growing Hollyhill Dr. Rick, I was expecting it to be a bit more red but either way I like the small IC blooms. Irish Glow is officially the smallest dahlia bloom I've grown. I'm not sure why I have always avoided pompons but I think I'll add a few more to the garden next year.
Great to see you getting back into the fun of dahlias! And I bet you have enough space to grow anything you want as long as you can water it, right?

Yeah, it's nice to hit the reset button with the gardening and have some new beds. We're on a somewhat tight allowance of water since we're sharing a line with the neighbors so hopefully it'll rain a moderate amount. Summer is basically our spring and hopefully it won't get to freezing until late October/November. I dug up 7 raised beds for the gardens and will probably do some more next year as we work on fencing to keep the sheep out of the gardens.

We’ve had milder temps the past 2 weeks and the dahlias seem to like it.

I met Jennie the namesake person a couple of times. Her son the dahlia breeder, Phil Traff died of HIV just as we were starting to breed dahlias and we never met him. She was a very nice unassuming person who volunteered to clerk at shows. Her namesake flower won a best in show flower at a National show.

Warning: stream of consciousness comin'
Hopefully next year if I can build up there nerve to get a few more raised beds built and if it isn't impossible to snatch a Tahoma Tempest up before they sell out. I did however manage to convince Del from Del's Dahlias to send me a Hillcrest Kismet for this year. I got 4 cuttings from it but they're all pretty small plants so I'm hoping for them to produce at least a couple of tubers. I put one cutting in a pot in hopes of getting a pot tuber (that one seems to be doing the best so far). I keep seeing people post pictures of Hart's Bonnie and I really need to get my hands on a tuber for next year. I ordered a few tubers from Swan Island despite the ridiculous prices for some. I'd really like to try to grow Grandpa's Gift because I really really love Nick Sr. but couldn't justify spending $40 on the tuber.
Mingus Wesley is a beaut, it's about 8-9" in diameter.
