I heard that Franck Avril, the photographer from San Francisco died. He loved dahlias and was the photographer for Dan's Dahlias.
Photos from the San Franciso Dahlia Society site.

How did you find out about that?

That's a sad loss to the dahlia community. His photos are used by other vendors as well and they were stunning. I have noticed less on the last couple years.

Very pretty. Are you using the macro lens you mentioned before?

My SLR camera that had the macro lens conked out and I am using a Canon G-15. It is a high end, point and shoot camera that is about 3 years old. I leave it on automatic and let the camera computer do most of the work, especially the focus. I cannot quite reach the quality of the SLR but it certainly is a lot easier. Good lighting really helps and this was an early in the morning picture where the sun was bit yellow orange and the rays were coming at an angle in the AM. And I took many other pictures that did not turn out very well too. Taking lots of pictures ensures that some of them turn out.

Lovely! I love it when a low sun turns everything into stained glass.
Such pretty colors on your seedling, Ted. I'ld like to see those on a fully double one, bb or B.

The picture on the left was posted on Facebook. I changed the color until the foliage was the proper color and that is the picture on the right. Still a nice purple that no one has seen before.

This little moth came by, and I snapped it. Later I saw the mantis lying in wait underneath! Happy coincidence!

I looked those butterflies up; frittilaires are larger. These are called Fiery Skippers - from the Skipper class.
