A local designer I have been working with sends me pics from her studio that she puts things together in. Got these today. I've tried explaining to her that my Verrone's Jerry stock is bad cause it is blowing it's centers. She's not buying the "bad" part. Also included is Snoho Storm.
This last one is from a few weeks ago. I posted about a wedding with all purples and dark reds. You may notice HH Ripple, RC Diane Brazil and River's Purple Pinwheel.

That bouquet is a lovely creation! And I am in full agreement about the Verrone's Jerry with the blown centers. I love curly petals, and bees.

Yes, it's true. If they are going anywhere other than to a show, most people don't mind blown centers. I am finishing cutting my stalks this week and last night took a bunch of 'last flowers' in a bucket to a meeting. All but two which were pretty droopy went home with someone. They were amazed at the color and vibrancy at this time of the year and no one said a word about the centers - all of which I am sure were open.

I saw Irish Blackheart for the first time in a show this year. I do not know how I missed seeing it before now. I was flabbergasted at how small it was. In my mind's eye, it was at least 7 inches in diameter but at the show it was maybe 5 inches. It won best stellar in the show so it was a nice one. I definitely would call it a "keeper".
Its a keeper just for enjoyment...it is not a good cut flower in summer. It is one of those where the white petals fry in the sun. At least this was true in my garden 2 years ago and I reluctantly eliminated it. It is cute as can be when conditions are right.

I grew Blackheart in 2014 , it was really pretty but made no seeds and only one or two tubers kept so I believe I passed it on to another cubits member to try , would love that color combination a waterlily or cactus

I grow IB from cuttings mostly, as it is not a prolific tuber maker. It's one of those varieties that fortunately does well when grown this way. It is a great little cut flower, and when grown in the full sun of my garden didn't fade or burn. And when the weather cools a little, it turns into a flower factory.

I grew it this year for the first time. It was extremely slow growing - came from a cutting from Cowitz. I got a few blooms, and they were tiny - more 3.5-4", but very nice.
I would like to know why the white petals shiveled in the sun and turned brown here where as it didn't do that at Clear Creek! And yes, I do water mine. I would love to be able to grow this for market here as well as HH Lemon Ice which does the same thing.
