This is the place to put those scrumptious images of other folk's gardens, whether it be a Trial, Show, or another grower's garden in 2015.

Here are the first shots from Pt Defiance Test Garden in Tacoma, WA. It has been suffering from the same heat wave that Ted, Linda and I comment on...temps 10-15 degrees above normal and NO precipitation. ITs showing in the garden for sure...but there are still some mighty pretty dahlias mixed in with some that clearly resent the change they weren't prepared for.Thumb of 2015-07-23/Islander/b30bb3 1,

#16, the red & white one with the jokers wild look, is a funny one. The red petals are bigger than the white-tipped ones. My guess would be that the white tips got burned in the sun and didn't expand as much.

#10 is going on my wish list if it can keep that fiery center. #11 looks good as well - I bet it is a bluer purple than the photo can show. Form needs cleaning up a bit.

#15 Delicate and soft in tone are fancy words for....... Whistling

Linda., "Little Golf Ball" is looking quite good. Smiling
#16 is a funny one. It is totally loaded with flowers at a time when the rest are just getting going, and every flower is a different variation on the theme. Not saying it is the best one out there but I think it will be really popular with the visitors to the garden. It might be a fun one for cut flowers too.

#10 is one of my favorites so far. It is much more colorfast under our blazing sun then most of the others, and the flowers have have consistently nice form. Its on my "Watch" list.

I really like the colors on #15. Its just getting started but I would say it is also on my "watch" list.

Noni: Do they plant like sizes of flowers together at the Tacoma trial garden? It looks to me like they are all mixed up.

Dahlias! Dahlias! Dahlias!
If I had to pick one, it would be #17. But that's not how I roll: 9, 5 (the dark blend or bicolored one), , and 4 are also on my list.

Noni, thank you for taking the time to capture these images. Lots of fun looking through the 'best of the best' undistributed seedlings.

4, 5 & 8 tickle my fancy, though I do worry that 5 might have tuber issues simply because the form seems too good to be true... 9 & 10 would be fun to grow and get to know.

Ted, you are right, they are all mixed up. I have no idea how they determine what goes where! I will have to ask Marilyn that question.

There are two different #5's in your lineup. I suspect the 2-tone dark blend is #5 and the gold one is #6, both from the order of your photos, and from seeing the gold one in the background of #7.

I think you are right, Linda, but I don't see a place to edit that post, due to it being moved into a new post. CC, is this something you can fix?

That bi-colored ball dahlia is my favorite so far but I do like the orange one with the dark centers as well.

I was careful this year to photograph the number post at each one before photographing the actual flowers, so when the results are in we can find the source for who will be selling it. Of course then I had to go back and get the number onto the photos I selected and that is where error entered, but I think now we can refer to them by the numbers I posted with them and keep track of their development over the summer.

Close up pictures are great but a picture of the bushes shows how big the flowers are and how bushy and vigorous the plants grow. I am guilty of posting lots of nice close up pictures too.

# 9 is a truly amazing one... Saw it at a show, and might well be a top contender. Too bad it's orange, though... Angel

John Spangenburg's MB Flame or orange has been in some shows but is not in trial gardens that I know of. It has created quite a bit of attention because of it's rolled up ray florets and very round shape. He has named it and I believe it is one of those that begins with "Crazy for..." and then a person's first name.

#17 resembles a teen girl's head with hair dyed pink with cream highlights that has lots of split ends. Not my cup of tea. Just looking at the picture I bet it is classified as B LC LB PK/W or PK/Y

I like big blowsy dahlias. That full messy look, and I also like dahlias that have meticulous form like Lulu Island Art and AC Shitake.

Its fun for me to read your comments. this week has been much cooler and cloudier so I wonder how much the flowers will vary in color on Monday. There should be lots of new ones, too. Ted, I will try to get photos of the whole plant later when they are all upand growing.
